Begin the day trip with pick-up from your hotel in Mombasa/Diani at around 8 a.m. Drive through the city center towards the historical old town of Kibokoni where you will find the famous Fort Jesus Museum. Find out how this building was designed by the Italian architect Giovanni Battista and was built between 1593 and 1596 by the order of King Philip of Portugal to guard the old port of Mombasa. Learn about Mombasa and how it evolved.
After that, pass-by the Mombasa Club, Africa Hotel, Mandhry Mosque, and Government Square, entering the Old Port and continuing towards the Old Spice Market. Walk past the old colonial houses and mosques as you discover the culture and origins of the city. Stop for lunch at Forodhani restaurants in town, for a delicacy lunch.
After lunch, take a drive along Mama Ngina to admire the scenic views of the the Mombasa Island and the ocean views. Then stop at the famous Pembe za Ndovu Elephant Tusk sculpture which can be found on the back of the local currency. Find out how this sculpture represents how Mombasa historical symbolized the gateway to the Arab ivory trade. Stop here to take photos.
Later in the afternoon, head over to Haller Park in time to feed the giraffes. Discover how a barren landscape of disused limestone quarries was converted into a vibrant and diverse ecosystem of forest, grasslands, and ponds. Currently, Haller Park plays host to a variety of wildlife including hippos, giraffes, buffalos, and antelopes as well as smaller mammals and birds. The Park consists of a Game Sanctuary, Reptile Park, small demonstration Fish Farm area, Palm Garden, Crocodile pens and a giraffe viewing platform. Return to your accommodation where the tour will end.
